Motormax 6000 Series
History and Check List

 ...Then Comes Motormax

    Redbox International (RBI) purchased the Zee Toys brand from Zyll Enterprise around 1998 and continued issuing many of their 3” toy cars under the Redbox brand, eventually mixing new castings with the old Zee Toys issues and changing the name to Motormax.

    Some models have also been issued as Super Wheels. These new castings are better models than the old Zee Toys, as you will see from these examples. A new 6000-series numbering system accompanies the description on the base.  Many previously undocumented models were recently found in a 50-car Motormax Super Wheels Die Cast Collection for $14.99 (regularly $19.99).  Several issues, such as 6068-6073, have been found to have no model description on the base, so generic descriptions have been provided when the model is unidentifiable.

    03 November 2005:  Brien Rousseau provides additional information to further complete this list, including wheel configurations, and designations regarding in which series or packaging they have been found. He has indicated whether they are Speed Wheels as offered at Walgreen's, Super Wheels and Road & Track models as available from Brook's, Fast Lane from Kids 'R' Us, and Hot Zone 3" Super Wheels as found at K B Toys.

    Confusion lies in the fact that Speed Wheels, Road & Track, and Hot Zone issues are primarily Maisto models.  The Motormax models are not designated Motormax, so the only clue is the 6000 series number on the base.

    14 November 2005:  Thanks to new information from Brian Willoughby, this list has been expanded to include models previously unknown.

    22 December 2005: Brien Rousseau adds for clarification that Speed Wheels are primarily made by Maisto, with some Motormax models available on cards marked “Collect Them All!” on the top back of the card above pictures of the models available, with 24 available in all. As far as I can tell, Road & Track, Series 1, are all made by Motormax. Hot Zone is primarily made by Maisto with some Motormax models marked 3” Super Wheels on the front of the card.

    16 February 2009:  Brien Rousseau offers this update - It has gotten increasingly hard to find Motormax 1:64 scale vehicles.

1.  I have not seen any Motormax vehicles in Speed Wheels packages (Walgreen’s), only Maisto.

2.  Ever since Rite Aid took over Brook’s, the Super Wheels are no longer available.

3.  Now that KB Toys has closed, Hot Zone brand is no longer available, although they were mostly Maisto towards the end anyway.

4.  It does not seem that Motormax ever released a second series of Road & Track packaged vehicles.

5.  Fast Lane is still available at Kids R Us, but only in 3 packs at present.  However, since it has been several years since my last letter, I will pass on additional information about the models I have found since that time.
