Return of a Borrowed Spirit
By Mr. Dana Johnson

There are cosmic, unchanging rules that we come to understand through our awakened conscience when we receive the Holy Spirit. Not that those rules are imposed by God, but rather that they are of God and revealed in us when we reach that level of understanding of God's righteousness over our own self-righteousness.

It is important to understand that the mind can play mischievous, deceitful and terrible tricks on us and can lead us into much trouble and misery. So it is important to listen to God with our hearts, and not with our minds. I recognize that the Bible's most important function is to guide us when we seek to know right from wrong.

I know that in my life I've committed many serious errors - call them sins, crimes, or just big stupid mistakes - against my own spirit, for which I seek forgiveness from God. I know that, with Jesus as my advocate and defense attorney, my acquittal is already assured. I know that Jesus loves us so much that such an innocent and lovely creature as He agreed to suffer his own torture and murder on our behalf so that we may all be forgiven for our crimes that we have committed against our Spirit which is, after all, the Part of God within us. For His immense sacrifice on our behalf, we owe our lives, our hearts and our souls to Jesus Christ.

It is important to remember what is important in life - that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are the fruit, or results, of our rediscovered Spirit. I'm sure you will agree that there can be no law against such things. [Paul's Letter to the Galatians 5:22-23]

If we are all on the path to God through acceptance of Jesus Christ as our sufferer and savior, we will all get to heaven, wherever that is. I have read the descriptions of heaven in the Bible as streets paved with gemstones and mansions of gold, but I don't care if the streets are unpaved and the buildings are run-down shacks. That's not the reason I want to go there. It is to return my borrowed Spirit back to God and to His Holy Son and to be with all those people who mean so much to me.

[Note:  It has been pointed out to me that, according to scriptures, the Spirit that God has placed within each of us is ours to keep.  With that expressed, I ask that you read and understand the above text for its spiritual intent rather than its technical accuracy as related to the Bible text.]
